Senior Advisor, Leadership

There’s a good chance you've heard of Te Waihanga. We’re small (but mighty) and haven’t been around long by government standards. But our job is as big as it gets, helping New Zealand get the right infrastructure, whether it’s transport connections that get us from a to b, water and power connections needed to support affordable homes, or schools and hospitals that support our communities.

All this is why we need you. We’re after someone to work together with our Director Leadership to build on Te Waihanga’s active work to strengthen government client-side capability to plan, design, deliver and maintain projects. This work seeks to ensure that New Zealand is developing senior leaders within Government that have the critical capabilities, valuable developmental experiences to excel at delivering to our infrastructure needs.

The role of Senior Advisor, Leadership is to lead, and project manage the roll out of the design and development of innovative, future-focused learning programmes and development initiatives focused on building capability across the infrastructure sector.  The Senior Advisor will work collaboratively with Te Waihanga team members and draw on subject matter experts across the sector to deliver relevant, useful and high-quality learning experiences.

To do this you will be a whizz at things like:

  • Strengthening government client-side capability to plan, design and deliver projects.
  • Promoting the key professions such as major project leadership
  • Supporting the creation of enduring peer to peer learning networks across a system
  • Relationship management and engagement

You will also have:

  • A relevant qualification or significant experience in learning design and education, preferably in adult education
  • A genuine passion for improving the outcomes from the delivery of infrastructure in New Zealand
  • Depth and breadth of experience in leadership development, organisational development or learning and development.
  • Experience in the analysis, design, delivery and evaluation of adult learning programmes with demonstrable knowledge of learning principles such as ADDIE, rapid prototyping, AGES and Kirkpatrick.

Mō te tīma / About our team

Te Waihanga is what’s called an Autonomous Crown Entity or, even better, an ACE. We think about the whole infrastructure system - roads, waterpipes, powerlines, you name it – and our job is to give advice and uncover the insights that can make it all work as well as it can, supporting an Aotearoa that’s great for the generations to come.

Our people are smart and passionate about this stuff. Sometimes too passionate - hence the need for an expert in making it accessible to others! They’re friendly and, this being a relatively small organisation, it’s easy to work with anyone here and to have an impact. We don’t do hierarchy or stand on ceremony.

We also value our people, and it’s important to us that you feel welcome, supported, and respected.
