The Government has asked the New Zealand Infrastructure Commission, Te Waihanga to oversee an urgent and wide-ranging review into the Transmission Gully Project, as announced by Transport Minister Phil Twyford and Infrastructure Minister Shane Jones on Friday 20th August.
Te Waihanga will be sourcing an international Expert Reviewer from Australia because there is a need for highly specialised skills and experience, the short time frame for an appointment, availability of our experts, and the need for independence from the New Zealand market.
The Peer Reviewer will provide peer support to the Expert Reviewer throughout the review process, including advice as to the standard practices in New Zealand and its construction market.
For projects of the scale and complexity of Transmission Gully, Te Waihanga would normally undertake a post-completion evaluation. However, given the public interest in the Transmission Gully project, Te Waihanga has been directed to oversee an interim project review focusing on the project to date.
