Project advice

We provide independent advice on delivering infrastructure projects.

Major infrastructure projects by their very nature are large scale and complex – they have bespoke issues, risks and challenges that require sophisticated project planning, management, procurement and governance approaches.

A strategic and coordinated approach for the delivery of current and proposed infrastructure projects means less risk and better infrastructure. We play an important role in advising on major projects and preparing best practice guidance on major infrastructure procurement and delivery.

How we can help

We provide independent advice on infrastructure projects being planned and delivered by government agencies, local authorities and others. As a System Leader within the Government Investment Management System we support the Treasury to advise Ministers on projects in planning and delivery. We also work with delivery and Monitoring agencies to ensure projects are set up for success, providing a level of assurance to decision-makers.

We provide independent expertise by participating in evaluation, monitoring and governance groups across the investment lifecycle through planning, procurement and delivery. We participate on major project steering groups and multi-agency monitoring groups.

We actively support the development of infrastructure leaders by:

  • Operating a Infrastructure Leaders Network (ILN), a platform for Public Sector leaders to connect, share, and learn
  • Providing targeted project masterclasses and training opportunities to address specific needs in leadership and project delivery
  • Publishing a Project Director Capability Framework to guide and enhance Project leadership practices
  • Assisting with major project leader recruitment and appointment processes, ensuring the right leaders are in place to drive successful outcomes.

We have best practice guidance available on a range of key aspects of delivering a successful project, including procurement and market engagement. Our library of case studies also shows how aspects of good project delivery work in practice.

Case studies from here and overseas are an example of how infrastructure projects can be delivered effectively. We will be adding to these over time.
